UV Curing Solutions

Advanced technology fields require more precise curing systems that produce reliable products and offer higher productivity. EYE Lighting / Iwasaki UV curing systems have proven to be exceptional solutions across a wide variety of industries and applications. Our UV curing systems are designed specifically for the application requirements. Iwasaki has developed three different proprietary UV light technology systems allowing us to match the technology to the application, and provide optimal performance and value.

UV Curing Applications

EYE Lighting / Iwasaki combines advanced lighting technology with years of application experience to supply systems that have become indispensable for the manufacture of many products.

Ultraviolet rays emitted form the light source induce a photochemical polymerization reaction in inks, paints, adhesives, and other products that contain photosensitive materials such as prepolymers, monomers, photopolymerization initiators, and pigments. This reaction cures these products instantaneously. New performance coatings, and the advancement of photosetting resins, are greatly expanding the applications for UV curing systems.

UV Curing Features

The rapid development of new materials, along with advancements in UV light technologies and optics, have exposed many new opportunities for UV curing.
Among the many reasons for this are:

Instantaneous Curing

  • Time saving - UV technology can cure a workpiece from a few seconds to as little as 0.1 sec.

  • Space saving - UV systems offer compact system design

  • Cost saving - UV systems can be easily scaled to provide the optimum size for the required throughput

Low-Temperature Technology

  • Accommodates heat-susceptible materials - UV can treat any type of material

  • Energy saving - only the required area is irradiated with ultraviolet rays on an as-needed basis

Eco-friendly Process

  • Improves the working environment - the UV system fundamentally requires no solvents and, unlike many heat process systems, is driven by electric power eliminating air pollution and odors

  • Simplified equipment - improves safety as solvent treatment and antipollution equipment are no longer needed

Improved Quality

  • Improved strength - the cured material acquires a higher mechanical strength

  • Reduced damage and odors - UV technology can cure materials more uniformly and help eliminate odors of ink and paint

  • Product flexibility - UV process can produce a metal-like burnish and higher quality feeling on material

  • Improved durability - UV curing offers significantly increased resistance to solvents, chemicals, and contamination

UV Advanced Design Technology

EYE / Iwasaki is committed to working with our customers to develop new and innovative products to solve even the toughest application problems. Iwasaki is constantly developing new possibilities for UV irradiation curing system products. Iwasaki operates a dedicated test laboratory to enable us to propose the optimal UV curing system for individual customer requirements.

One example of our UV advanced design systems is this custom irradiation package. Since the lamp is cooled with air and the reflector is cooled with water, the air extraction is reduced providing very high output energy while allowing the irradiator to be downsized.

EYE Lighting / Iwasaki can provide UV systems to meet your specific requirements. We welcome the opportunity to work with you.

Mercury Lamp

High-purity mercury (Hg) and trace rare gas are sealed into a quartz luminous tube. This lamp efficiently irradiates with 254, 303, 313, and 365nm ultraviolet rays, where 65nm is the main wavelength.

The mercury lamp outputs stronger and shorter wavelength ultraviolet rays compared to other lamps, and is mainly used in applications such as curing coatings and clear paints.

Metal Halide Lamp

Metal halide and mercury are both sealed into a quartz luminous tube. This lamp irradiates over a wide UV spectrum from 200 to 450nm.

The metal halide lamp outputs stronger and longer wavelength ultraviolet rays at 300 to 450nm compared to mercury lamps. This type of lamp is ideally suited for curing printing inks.

High-pressure
Metal Halide Lamp

Mercury and a metal halide (different from that used in the metal halide lamp) are sealed into a quartz luminous tube. This lamp features particularly strong ultraviolet rays at 400 to 450nm.

This high-pressure metal halide lamp is ideal for curing thick paint films containing pigments.
