Solar simulation is
critical in the efficient qualification of PV module testing. Although
most testing can be performed using natural sunlight, this is irregular at
best. Proper solar simulation systems can reduce test time dramatically
while providing a repeatable test environment.
The
following test sequence (IEC 61215 Ed-2) identifies test procedures for
crystalline silicon PV modules. It is designed to determine the
performance characteristics of modules and their ability to withstand
prolonged exposure to the environment. The highlighted test level areas
signify those where solar simulation is recommended. Selecting them will
display additional information on this test stage along with the required
simulator classification as stated in the IEC international standard.
Please
refer to the complete IEC international standards for full test procedures
and requirements.
